A new house we now call home

Life continues to change for the Leighty family. A week ago we began moving into our new house. Many hours of unpacking and lots of empty boxes later, things are starting to come together. We look forward to showing you pictures/virtual tour, but the best way to see it is for yourself. Family and friends are always welcome. Out of towners, even more so (there's lots of great hotels in Fort Wayne). Actually, we have lots of room.

In between all that was happening we celebrated Matthew's birthday. This year he turned 29 (again).

Ian has taken well to his new surroundings. We set up his new bed, and he enjoys the jumper that was placed in a wide entryway between the living room and dining area. To answer our most recent poll question, the first thing to happen was Ian rolling over. The others, we still look forward to seeing. Especially Aunt Lauren chaning a diaper, which nobody seems to think will happen either. It's incredible to watch him grow. His favorite thing is making noise. Daddy's favorite thing is when he's quiet, which usually only happens when Ian is sleeping.

Borchelt Family Vacation

This past week we went on our annual Borchelt family vacation. This year we ventured to South Haven, MI. We had beautiful weather all week and we didn't have to drive 12 hours to get there.

South Haven is a port city along Lake Michigan. Here the family takes a break from walking along the shoreline to smile for the camera.

And did we walk. Matthew said all the exercise reminded him of when they went bike riding in the mountains of Colorado. But that's another story for another time.

When we weren't walking. We hung out at the pool and relaxed on the beach. Ian got to spend lots of time in the water. Being a part of the Borchelt family, he's quickly getting use to it.

One of our favorite things to do on the beach was to watch the sun set.

Eating out is always a good thing to do on vacation. On this occasion, Grandma Borchelt has fun giving Ian water. He made funny faces but went back for more.

We could not leave this little piece of paradise without taking a sailboat ride. At first, Matthew was hesitant about the whole thing.

Later Matthew managed to smile for the camera. Notice he is the only one wearing a life preserver. Sure, he would save himself before he would even put one on his four month old son! Actually, Ian has proven to be a better swimmer than Matthew so no worries.

Most of all, it was great spending time with family. After all, when else do we get to see them if not for vacation?

Hannah turns 5

Hannah, our niece, turned five this past week so we celebrated with a "Tinkerbell" themed birthday party.

What does every five year old want for their birthday? Clothes of course. Well, maybe not, but she still gave the gift a thumbs up. Perhaps she's holding on to hope for a better gift at Christmas.

4th of July!

This year is exciting because every holiday is a first for/with Ian. Thus, this weekend we got to celebrate the 4th of July for the first time together. We are blessed to live in the greatest country in the world. Friday, we enjoyed the day by going up to "the lake" and spending time with the Borchelt family.

The entire weekend was beautiful. Here we are sporting our patriotic wear and smiling for the camera. Well, at least two of us are.

Matthew did some reading while Ian took a nap.


The night of the 4th, Ian got to watch his first fireworks. It was an amazing sight to see them going off all around the lake. Ian's reaction was priceless.

Adam and Tiffany visit from Germany

Kelli's best friend from high school, Tiffany, and her husband Adam were home this week from Germany where they have been living and working for the department of defense. We don't know exactly what they do but we think it's confidential. Yesterday Tiffany and Kelli's family got together to hang out and catch up. Thanks Tiffany, Adam, and Tiffany's family for the great fun and hospitality.
